## Mathematics

**Edexcel IGCSE O-level: **

Suitable for students in private schools who wish to improve their performance throughout the year. We also offer rigorous revision for the Edexcel examination at the end of the year.

IGCSE O-level is a 2-year course and is comprised by 2 papers, Mathematics A Higher Tier Paper 1 (4MA0/3H) and Mathematics A Higher Tier Paper 2 (4MA0/4H).

Students in public schools who wish to enter universities in the UK are not required to take the IGCSE O-level examination. It is recommended, however, to take the GCE A-level examination.

**Aims/Skills development through IGCSE O-level Mathematics:**

IGCSE O-level Mathematics has been designed in such a way to encourage students to:

- Enjoy using and applying mathematical techniques and concepts, and become confident to use mathematics to solve problems
- Develop knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical concepts and techniques
- Appreciate the importance of mathematics in society, employment and study
- Acquire a foundation of mathematical skills for further study in the subject or related areas

**Edexcel GCE A-level:**

Suitable for students who wish to enter universities in the UK. The GCE A-level Mathematics course is available for students both in private as well as in public schools.

GCE A-level Mathematics is a 2-year course, comprised by 6 units. Core Mathematics units C1, C2, C3 and C4 are compulsory. For the remaining 2 units, the students can choose any combination of Statistics units S1, S2 and Mechanics units M1, M2, depending on their prospective field of study.

GCE A-level Pure Mathematics is also available and is comprised by Core Mathematics units C1, C2, C3, C4 and Further Pure Mathematics units FP1, FP2.

Students who wish to obtain GCE AS-level Mathematics ( A-level) need to complete 3 units. For AS Mathematics, Core Mathematics units C1 and C2 are compulsory. Students can then choose either Mechanics unit M1 or Statistics unit S1. AS Pure Mathematics is comprised by Core Mathematics units C1, C2 and C3. GCE AS-level Mathematics is a 1-year course.

**Aims/Skills development through GCE A-level Mathematics:**

GCE A-level Mathematics has been designed in such a way to encourage students to:

- Develop their understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment
- Develop abilities to reason logically and recognise incorrect reasoning
- Select and use knowledge of mathematical facts, concepts and techniques in a variety of contexts
- Extend their range of mathematical skills and techniques and use them in more difficult, unstructured problems
- Construct rigorous mathematical arguments and proofs through use of precise statements and by the manipulation of mathematical expressions
- Select and use their knowledge of standard mathematical models to represent situations in the real world
- Comprehend translations of common realistic contexts into mathematics
- Acquire the skills needed to use contemporary calculator technology and other permitted resources accurately and efficiently; recognise when such use may be inappropriate and be aware of its limitations
- Develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to other fields of study, to the world of work and to society in general
- Take increasing responsibility for their own learning and the evaluation of their own mathematical development

**Secondary School**

We offer tutoring for all Secondary School levels to improve students’ performance throughout the year as well as rigorous revision for the end-of-year examinations.

**Lyceum:**

We offer complete courses for all Lyceum levels and the Pancyprian Examinations. Courses are available for both Core and Advanced Mathematics.
